Reading the Alhambra

A visual guide to the Alhambra through its inscriptions. It is not enough merely to see the Alhambra to obtain a complete idea of the intentions of its builders and the deep roots of its magni cence; to do that you have to read it, read what its builders inscribed on its walls and its arches in majestic epigraphic panels, and in diminutive script in its tiniest corners.

The guide «Reading the Alhambra», by Professor José Miguel Puerta Vílchez, puts within your reach in an eminently graphic and visual way the great textual architecture that makes up the Alhambra in Granada, transforming its walls into the pages of this book.

The following video shows a small part of the documentary «Reading the Alhambra», based on the book, where you can see some of the most beautiful architectural calligrams of the Alhambra.

The written word not only covers the walls of the Nasrid palaces and is idealized through the poems, but is also transformed into imaginary architecture in the shape of arches and porticos full of leaves and owers.
